AKETE REGION CELEBRATES AVIARY CLUB OF NIGERIA @ 30.

Aviary Club of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to brotherhood, community service and responsible membership, as it marked its 30th anniversary with charity outreaches across Nigeria and in the diaspora.

Speaking during the anniversary celebration, the Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Abimbola Shittu, said the club had evolved from a university-based advocacy group into an organisation focused on personal development, mentorship and humanitarian activities.

According to him, members of the club carried out charity projects to commemorate the anniversary, including visits to orphanages, motherless babies’ homes, homeless shelters and veterans’ centres, while others distributed food items and financial support to vulnerable persons in communities.

He noted that although the club began as a student movement involved in public debates and advocacy on issues affecting campuses, its focus had shifted towards self-development, networking and community impact. “Our focus today is self-improvement, community service and building meaningful connections that positively impact society.”

Shittu said the club seeks to correct misconceptions about its activities, describing it as a non-governmental organisation that promotes advocacy, public debates, current affairs and community development.

He added that the organisation maintains a strict membership process, including background checks, to ensure only individuals of proven character and integrity are admitted.

In his anniversary address, the Akete Regional President, Yomi Lawal, described the occasion as a celebration of 30 years of brotherhood, advocacy, charity and community service, saying the club’s achievements were built on friendship, selfless service and a commitment to making society better.

Lawal commended the club’s founders, elders and members for sustaining its vision over the past three decades. He urged members to remain committed to mentoring younger members, strengthening friendships and promoting peace, integrity and excellence in their communities.

“Thirty years is a celebration of friendship, selfless service and our commitment to building a better society.”

Also speaking, a member of the club and President of the Akete Region, Dr. Ajayi Olaseni, described the anniversary as a significant milestone, saying the organisation had remained united despite challenges over the years.

He said the regional chapter, established about seven years ago, had continued to grow and expressed optimism about its future.

Olaseni identified brotherhood, unity and the recruitment of like-minded individuals as priorities for the club going forward.
