KUKURUKU AVIARY HUMANITARIAN OUTREACH TO AUCHI CORRECTIONAL FACILITY

In commemoration of the 29th Founders’ Day of the Aviary Club of Nigeria, celebrated on July 19, 2025, Kukuruku Chapter demonstrated the true spirit of brotherhood and humanitarian service through a compassionate outreach to the Auchi Correctional Facility in Edo State.
The initiative reflected the club’s enduring commitment to humanitarian service, youth rehabilitation, skills development, and nation building, reaffirming the Aviary’s belief that meaningful service to humanity must extend to every segment of society, including those seeking a second chance at life.
BEYOND CHARITY: A COMMITMENT TO REHABILITATION AND EMPOWERMENT
The visit was a fulfilling and purposeful engagement, providing an opportunity for the Kukuruku Aviaryto interact constructively with correctional authorities and explore sustainable ways to contribute to the rehabilitation and personal development of inmates.
A major highlight of the visit was the successful engagement with the facility’s authorities on a proposed long term intervention involving the establishment of a Computer Training Centre and a Barbing Salon within the correctional facility.

These proposed skill acquisition centres are designed to equip interested inmates with practical vocational and digital skills that can improve their prospects of employment, entrepreneurship, and successful reintegration into society upon their release.
By promoting access to relevant skills and opportunities for personal growth, the initiative seeks to reinforce the importance of rehabilitation, self reliance, and the belief that every individual deserves an opportunity to rebuild their life.
In furtherance of its humanitarian mission, the Kukuruku Aviary also donated essential supplies and provided financial assistance towards the purchase of medications for inmates recognised for good conduct and positive behavioural improvement.
These gestures underscored the chapter’s determination to provide meaningful support while encouraging personal development, responsible conduct, and renewed hope among the beneficiaries.

In compliance with the facility’s regulatory and security protocols, photography was not permitted during the visit. However, the engagements and proposed interventions were officially acknowledged, marking an important step towards the realisation of the planned projects.
The Kukuruku Aviary is awaiting the necessary documentation and final approval from the Nigerian Correctional Service to facilitate the commencement of the proposed skill acquisition initiatives.
Upon approval, these projects are expected to serve as practical instruments of empowerment, helping interested inmates acquire valuable skills that can support their transition towards productive and responsible lives beyond incarceration.
The outreach also reinforces a fundamental principle of the Aviary ideology, true brotherhood goes beyond the bonds we share among ourselves, it is equally reflected in the lives we touch, the hope we restore, and the opportunities we create for others.
