The Aviary Club of Nigeria is a respected organization built on values of unity, professionalism, integrity, and responsible communication. As our presence continues to grow across digital spaces, it becomes necessary to maintain standards that reflect the dignity of the club and the positive image we project to the public.
This publication serves as a guide on the appropriate use of words and expressions across all Aviary Club of Nigeria online platforms, especially social media channels.
What is Social Media?
Social media refers to internet-based platforms that allow individuals, groups, or organizations to create, share, and interact with content, ideas, and information within virtual communities.
Examples of platforms classified as social media include:
Four Most Popular Social Media Platforms Globally
• X (formerly Twitter)
• TikTok
Meta Platforms (Owned by Meta)
• Threads
• Messenger
Other commonly recognized social media platforms include YouTube, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Telegram, and Reddit.
Professional Language Expectations
All members representing the Aviary Club of Nigeria on official or affiliated platforms are expected to use language that promotes respect, maturity, and organizational credibility.
The following categories of expressions are considered inappropriate for ACN platforms, whether used seriously, jokingly, or casually:
1. Profanity
Examples include:
• fuck
• shit
• bitch
• bastard
• asshole
2. Explicit or Sexual References
Examples include:
• porn
• nude
• horny
• sex (when used in explicit or suggestive context)
Why These Words Are Not Needed
1. Preserving Organizational Image
Language reflects identity. The Aviary Club of Nigeria maintains a reputation built on discipline and professionalism. Profanity or explicit expressions may diminish public trust and respect.
2. Inclusivity and Respect
Our platforms are viewed by people of diverse ages, cultures, and backgrounds. Avoiding offensive or explicit language ensures that everyone feels comfortable and respected.
3. Public Visibility and Permanence
Social media content is easily shared, archived, and referenced. Words posted today can influence perceptions of the organization for years to come.
4. Leadership by Example
As a recognized body with humanitarian and social influence, the club sets standards for responsible communication. Maintaining clean language encourages positive digital culture.
5. Avoiding Misinterpretation
Even when used as jokes, certain words can be misunderstood or taken out of context, leading to unnecessary controversy or reputational risk.
Recommended Communication Style
Members are encouraged to:
• Use clear, respectful, and professional expressions.
• Focus on constructive dialogue.
• Promote unity, growth, and positivity in every post or comment.
• Represent the Aviary Club of Nigeria with dignity both online and offline.
