Lincoln Aviary’s Back to School Event Ignites Energy and Purpose in Chicago

Updated: 2 days ago

In a vibrant celebration that blended community engagement, educational support, and cultural pride, the Lincoln Aviary hosted its much-anticipated Back-to-School Event today in Chicago, drawing a massive crowd of families, students, and distinguished Aviary Club leaders from across North America. Organized under the theme “Prepared Minds, Empowered Futures,” the event provided school supplies, mentorship talks, music, games, and a strong message of purpose to kick off the new academic year.

The event was graced by some of the most influential figures within the Aviary Club of Nigeria, each delivering powerful insights and encouragement to the youth:

  • Avian. Wale Babatunde, President of Lincoln Aviary (Chicago), welcomed guests with an inspiring opening remark: “Education is not just about books. It’s about courage, identity, and building a legacy. Today, we remind our young people that they are not alone in this journey.”

  • Avian. Babajide Adeoye, Global Director, Planning & Organisation of the Aviary Club of Nigeria, commended the Lincoln Aviary for its structure and impact. He challenged the youth to: “Lead with clarity and serve with character. Wherever you go, go with the Aviary standard.”

  • Avian. Akin Ijetimi, Aviary Club Ambassador, brought warmth and motivation with his words: “Our feathers don’t just help us fly, they help others rise too. Let’s lift as we climb.”

  • Also in attendance was Avian. Ayo, Former Director of Planning & Organisation for the North America Provincial Council, who reminded the attendees of the roots and responsibilities of Aviary leadership: “The Aviary family believes in structured excellence. Today is a blueprint of what happens when we show up with unity and intention.”

Throughout the day, over 200 backpacks filled with school essentials were distributed to students of all ages. There were also career talk sessions, a scholarship raffle, and a parent corner focused on youth development in the diaspora. Younger attendees enjoyed face painting, storytelling, and the “Aviary Spelling Bee,” while parents connected with mentors and community organizers about opportunities for further involvement.

The event also featured a cultural showcase, with traditional music, dance, and spoken word performances highlighting the richness of African heritage and the pride of the Aviary identity.

Strengthening the Mission in North America

The Lincoln Aviary has rapidly grown into one of the most impactful chapters in North America, and today’s event solidified its standing as a hub for youth empowerment, leadership training, and civic engagement.

“This is only the beginning,” said President Avian. Wale Babatunde. “We are building bridges across generations and continents, and our work is far from done.”
